Let’s kick off this project proper style, Bill Thompson style!
I originally started participating in the 30 Day Film Challenge at The Reelists by posting a lone paragraph for every day of the challenge to explain my choice for that day. The death of The Reelists left me with nowhere to finish the project, and since I was already among the gaggle of people taking part I couldn’t let that happen, now could I? My simple solution is to bring it to Bill’s Movie Emporium, but with one small twist. Outside of a recent mistake posting, I don’t like publishing more than one post a day. With that being the case I won’t be publishing the 30 Day Film Challenge thirty days in a row, but rather I will be publishing an entry on every day where I don’t have a podcast review, a film review, or some other post ready to go up. It may take me a while, but I’ll get there, trust me on that. Now, let’s get on with the first entry,
Day 1 – Your Favorite Film
The Shawshank Redemption (1994, Frank Darabont)
Over the years I have written a lot about The Shawshank Redemption, and you know what, I never get tired of writing about this movie. It’s impossible to accurately convey why The Shawshank Redemption is my favorite movie of all time in a lone paragraph, but I can tell you that I absolutely love every nook and cranny of Frank Darabont’s masterpiece. I marvel at the scope of it, the depth of emotion, the acting, the thematic exploration, the cinematography, the score, and more, and more, and more. The bottom line is I love watching The Shawshank Redemption by myself, with close friends, with people I don’t know, I just love watching this movie. I don’t really know how to describe my movie watching sensibilities, I’m kind of all over the place, but I know what I love, and I love The Shawshank Redemption.
