Like you people actually thought there would be only one Hayao Miyazaki film in the challenge!
Day 11 – A Film By Your Favorite Director
Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi (Spirited Away, 2001, Hayao Miyazaki)
The worlds that Hayao Miyazaki creates are always full of imagination, but a lot of created worlds are. What separates Miyazaki-san’s worlds from other imaginative worlds is that the care and attention he gives to those worlds seeps out of every pore of his films. Out of all his works, I love every single one of them, it’s perhaps Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi that gives the viewer the best experience of Miyazaki-san’s brand of film making. Whether it’s ancillary characters or the main character of Sen, each and every being that exists in the world of Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi is given an attention to detail that is startling. When a wonderfully imaginative story is added to a wonderfully imaginative world and a group of fantastic characters I’m left with possibly the best outing from the best director the world has ever seen.
Cheers,
Bill
Great stuff. Easily my favorite Miyazaki.
Easily my favorite film of all time. Again, great insight, Bill.
James: I love everything Miyazaki has done, and while My Neighbor Totoro comes close there’s something about Spirited Away that allows it to just inch ahead.
Steve: Thanks, I had a feeling you’d dig this. 🙂
