30 Day Film Challenge: Day 12 – A Film By Your Least Favorite Director: Pulp Fiction (1994)

When a director causes me to almost give up the medium of film as a whole, I think I have reason to dislike him!

Day 12 – A Film By Your Least Favorite Director

Pulp Fiction (1994, Quentin Tarantino)

I can’t stand Quentin Tarantino, the films he makes are ugly, derivative, misogynistic, and unnecessarily violent. Pulp Fiction is the best example of why I think he’s not just a terrible filmmaker, but a complete hack. This film lacks imagination, as I said the last time I watched, Pulp Fiction is a movie made by someone who thinks he’s cool and wants the world to know how cool he is. Tarantino isn’t cool though, Pulp Fiction isn’t cool, nothing about this movie or the rest of Tarantino’s work is cool. Pulp Fiction is boring, it’s screenplay is shoddy, the actors try, but when a hack is behind the wheel their work is bound to be cut to shreds. Everyone else loves Pulp Fiction and they love Tarantino, I get that, but it doesn’t change just how terrible I think he is and just how wretched of a film I find Pulp Fiction to be.

  1. I recently rewatched Pulp Fiction and it didn’t hold up for me at all. I don’t hate him, but some of his films are pretty terrible.

  2. I don’t know if I hate Tarantino, I prefer to say I loathe his films, I just do not get why others love him and his empty films so much…

Wow. You don’t like Tarantino. I think you’re the first person I know who copped to that. But more power to you. I mean, I can’t stand David Lynch, and I’m not overly fond of Peter Jackson (excluding “Heavenly Creatures,” which I love).

I disagree with James. I think “Pulp Fiction” has held up incredibly well since it was released. Some of its quotations and characters became part of our culture. And they stayed there. That’s the hallmark of a lasting film.

  4. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, sometimes we go against the grain in that regard. Glad you’re one of the people with a healthy outlook on all this, and not part of the “You hate Tarantino? You’re an idiot who knows nothing about movies,” crowd, because I get that a lot and it is quite maddening.

  5. Well, if you hate Tarantino and you call yourself a movie buff then seriously you need be checked up and a good advice to you please don’t watch movies from now on otherwise it’s just shame for the movies you watch!!

  6. Ah, quite a learned response. When you have something educated to say I will say something educated in return. As of now your first grade level response warrants nothing more than I have given you.

  7. What rubbish don’t say the ugly as Tarantino its really interesting. Different mind different thinking guys.

  8. Well, I find his films ugly and uninteresting, hence that’s what I have to say about them.
