Frockisawesome

The List is a special project of mine, it’s been around for a while, but it’s now new and improved. It’s an easy, if quite unwieldy concept, contained within this page are the overall rankings of every movie I have seen since back in 2002 when I started keeping track of the films I watched. The years and the official titles for the films I get from Internet Movie Database, and I took my star rating system from Roger Ebert. The new features this time around are that I finally got around to italicizing every title, and I have provided links for the films that I have written reviews for. For example, if you’re browsing through my list and come across the entry for The Green Mile, just click on it and you will be taken to my review of that film. On the off hand that I have reviewed a film twice if you click on the star rating for a film you will be taken to the latest review I have written. The system should not get more complicated than that as I don’t envision myself reviewing any movies for a third time. I think that about explains everything, so skim through if you so desire, and be prepared to agree and disagree with me an awful lot,

    It makes me very happy to see “T2,” “Shawshank” and “Eternal Sunshine” cracking your Top 3 — all excellent films that share a kind of timeless, almost flawless appeal.

    I love all three movies a great deal, surprisingly while I’ve seen the first two a bunch of times I’ve only seen Sunshine once. Really though, any film in at least my top 100 is a movie I love for one reason or another.

    Putting Waitress and Day Watch so low makes me sad.

    But you’ve got plenty of great stuff near the top. Can’t begrudge anyone too much if they love Paris, Texas.

    Impressive list, love that so many Ghibli films are up in the top rankings, but to have Buckaroo Banzai below Battlefield Earth, nooooooooo.

    James – Sorry to make you sad, but I loathed those films.

    Dave – Thanks, and sorry. 😦 I know that a lot of people love that movie in a “so bad it’s good” sort of way, but it wasn’t my cup of tea I guess.

    Thanks, it is a lot, but since I maintain and update it on a regular basis it’s actually pretty easy to keep a handle on. If I ever let it slide for a bit though, I can see that becoming a big problem.

    I’m curious to hear your reasons to have “After the Wedding” so high on your list. It’s a good film, but not that memorable for me. What really struck you about that film?

    It’s a Susanne Bier film, and she happens to be one of my favorite directors., so right off the bat it has that going for it. Across the board I thought it was finely acted, and I found it emotionally draining. Bier finds an honesty in her characters, they go through high melodrama, but it never feels melodramatic, it’s real in every sense of the word. I found the little mini-twists to be handled well, and the story was deeply compelling to me. The moment I finished watching it, I shot the film into my top 5, that’s how much of an impact it made on me.
